It is that time of year again; the holiday we look forward to is drawing closer. It is a time when desserts abound, family moments take centre stage, and we pause to reflect on the year with those we hold dear.
This year, instead of discussing personal milestones, I want to draw your attention to the class of 2025. Some are friends, some are collaborators, and some are just experts in their craft. Nonetheless, it was an honour to sit with these people and discuss their journeys.
As I said last year, Calgary boasts one of the most diverse and talented creative communities. I firmly stand by that belief, and it is heartening to know that many local creatives share the same conviction. Through conversations in this series, there is a collective sense that our city has the potential to make its mark on the map—given the right opportunities.
I started this project to highlight as many creators as possible. However, I did not just want the audience to see them but also to get to know them through this personal and podcast-like setting.
In 2023, the Class of 2024 featured 16 different creatives, and they all had their stories (watch here). It had a great turnaround overall, but the perfectionist in me thought it could be better. This year, although with fewer creatives and without a sponsorship, turned out better than last year’s. It was more conversation-based, which gave the guests leeway to express themselves unfiltered and uncontrolled. We got to share laughs, discuss some challenges, and have a candid conversation on camera.
This is my favourite project yet and it has been fulfilling watching people engage and take interest. It’s only up from here—cheers to the new year and what lies behind the horizon.
